Overview

The Hardware report gives a detailed view of your clients' computers. The data provided on the report gives you information about the motherboard, CPU, RAM, video, MAC address, IP address, gateway and drive information. This report can be useful in determining what machines need to be replaced or upgraded.

This report can be run for all clients or by client, location, computer type, computer or group. Additional filters are available to run the report based on specific criteria.

The purpose of this document is to show you how to use the report specific filters and how to understand the data provided by the report. A sample page of the report is included at the end of this document with each section explained separately.

Important! IMPORTANT: The Hardware report is complex and as a result can take a long time to run and may degrade performance.

Note NOTE: If you are running the report and you do not have full access to all clients (clients, computers and locations) the report will only show information for what you have permission to access.

Filter Options

Filters allow you to run reports based on specific criteria. The filters are separated into two sections. On the left, there are the basic filters to limit the report by client, location, computer type, computer or group. On the right, there are report specific filters that will further narrow your report results (e.g., asset tag, domain, etc.). Refer to the following table for information on how to use these filters.

The Primary Hardware section (section C) displays data about the primary hardware in the computer: motherboard, serial number (if available), BIOS information, CPU details, RAM, video, MAC address, IP address, gateway and peripheral information. This information is populated based on the inventory information retrieved from the agent computer using the computer's native SMBIOS. SMBIOS inventory for virtual machines will not be accurate as it is dependent on what information the VM host relays to LabTech (e.g., MS Hyper V will always report a PIII with 4-16MB RAM chips). If the agent computer is a Mac or Linux machine, inventory information is retrieved using WMI methods. For more information on SMBIOS, please refer to the SMBIOS Inventory documentation.

Note NOTE: Virtual machines do not show in the Hardware report. This is detected by the VM Machine flag on the Computer Management screen. If a machine is a VM Host (VM Host flag on the Computer Management screen is selected), a blue box will appear in the upper right of the Primary Hardware section to designate it as such.
